Technical SEO Checklist for 2026: Core Web Vitals, Schema & AI Readiness

Technical SEO requires a massive update for 2026. If the core foundation of your website is broken, neither Google nor ChatGPT will trust your content. Here is the ultimate technical SEO checklist to prepare your site for traditional algorithms and AI engines.

1. Core Web Vitals (INP over FID)

Google has officially replaced First Input Delay (FID) with Interaction to Next Paint (INP). INP measures the overall responsiveness of a page to user interactions across the entire lifecycle of the visit.

2. Advanced Schema Markup (JSON-LD)

Schema is no longer optional. It is the language that AI agents and crawlers use to understand context instantly. You must meticulously structure your data.

3. AI-Crawler Readiness

LLMs have their own crawlers (e.g., ChatGPT-User, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot). You need to decide your strategy for these bots in your robots.txt.

If you block GPTBot, your content cannot be used to generate answers in ChatGPT. For most brands (unless you are a publisher protecting paywalled IP), allowing AI crawlers is now a strategic necessity for GEO.

4. Semantic HTML Structure

AI parsers rely heavily on semantic HTML to extract information. Ensure your hierarchy is logical: single H1s, sequential H2s and H3s, and proper use of <article>, <section>, and <nav> tags.
